Langkawi, Malaysia

Officially called Langkawi, the Jewel of Kedah, this duty-free island is part of an archipelago of 99 islands (plus five smaller islands that are only visible at low tide in the Strait of Malacca). It is situated next to the Thai border, about 30 kilometers off the coast of northwest Malaysia, and a few kilometers south of Ko Tarutao. In terms of politics, Kuah is the largest town in Kedah's administrative area.
