The southern part of the wider Kashmir area, which has been the focus of a conflict between India and Pakistan since 1947 and between India and China since 1959, is known as Jammu and Kashmir. It is a province that India administers as a union state. The Pakistani-administered regions of Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir in the north and west of Jammu and Kashmir are divided by the Line of Control. It is located west of Ladakh, which is governed by India as a union territory, and north of the Indian states of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh.The two main airports in Jammu and Kashmir are Srinagar Airport, which is the only international airport in the region, and Jammu Airport, which is located in Jammu. Regular flights are available from these airports to Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chandigarh, and other major cities across the nation.The majority of people of Jammu and Kashmir are Muslims, with a sizable Hindu minority.The mother tongue, Kashmiri, is the most commonly spoken language.Additionally, many people speak and understand Urdu, especially in the Kashmir region.
