Central China's Hunan is an inland province. Hubei to the north, Jiangxi to the east, Guangdong and Guangxi to the south, and Guizhou and Chongqing to the northwest are the province-level divisions that encircle this central location in the Yangtze watershed. Changsha, the capital and largest city, is located next to the Xiang River. Yueyang, Zhuzhou, and Hengyang are some of its most populated cities.With a nominal GDP of US$724 billion (CN¥4.6 trillion) in 2021, Hunan ranks in the top 20 largest sub-national economies in the world, with a PPP of more than US$1.1 trillion.[6][7] The economy of Hunan is the fourth largest in South Central China, the third largest in Central China, the ninth largest in China, and the fourth largest among landlocked provinces.There are several different dialects in the Hunan region. Xiang, Southwestern Mandarin, Gan, Hakka, and a few regional dialects whose identities are yet unknown, like Xiangnan Tuhua and Waxiang dialect, are among the dialects spoken in the province. Many people can converse in Chinese and speak their own ethnic language in places where ethnic minorities reside.  

The capital of the Sichuan province in China is Chengdu. With a population of 20,937,757 according to the 2020 census, it is the only city in China with a population of more than 20 million people outside of directly controlled municipalities and ranks fourth in terms of population. It has long served as Western China's center.  

Southwestern China contains the inland province of Yunnan. With a population of 47.2 million (as of 2020), the province covers an area of around 394,000 km2 (152,000 sq mi). Kunming serves as the province's capital. The province shares borders with Southeast Asian nations Myanmar (Burma), Vietnam, and Laos, as well as the Chinese provinces of Guizhou and Sichuan, as well as the autonomous territories of Guangxi and Tibet. According to per capita disposable income in 2014, Yunnan ranks as the fourth least developed province in China.With low elevations in the Southeast and high elevations in the Northwest, Yunnan is located in a hilly region. The eastern portion of the province is home to the majority of the people. In the west, elevations can range up to 3,000 meters (9,800 feet) from mountain summits to river valleys. In addition to having the most diverse plant life in China, Yunnan is abundant in natural resources. Yunnan may have 17,000 or more species of higher plants out of China's 30,000 or so kinds.In addition to having significant copper and nickel reserves, Yunnan has China's greatest reserves of aluminum, lead, zinc, and tin. In the past, modern Yunnan was traversed by the southwestern Silk Road that led to Bhitargarh in Bangladesh.In higher education, Yunnan has one "National Key University"—Yunnan University in Kunming.  

Shanghai[a] is China's largest populated urban region and a direct-administered municipality. The Huangpu River flows through the city, which is situated on the Chinese coastline at the southern estuary of the Yangtze River. With around 24.87 million persons in 2023, the city proper has the second-largest population in the world, behind Chongqing, while the urban area has the highest population in China, with 29.87 million people.Initially a market town and fishing village, Shanghai gained prominence in the 19th century as a result of its advantageous port position and both local and international trade. Following the First Opium War, the city was one of five treaty ports compelled to open to European trade.One of the top ten global economic centers, Shanghai has been dubbed the "showpiece" of the Chinese economy. The city is famous for its Lujiazui skyline, museums, and historic structures, including as the China Pavilion, Yu Garden, City God Temple, and skyscrapers along the Bund. It features a variety of architectural styles, including Art Deco and Shikumen. From the Bund, you can see the Oriental Pearl Tower. Shanghai is renowned for its global culture, local language, and food. On the list of cities with the most skyscrapers, it comes in at number six.
