Aydarkul Lake is a massive, man-made oasis spanning roughly (3,000 ext{ km}^2) in the Kyzylkum Desert of Uzbekistan. Created by an accidental flood in 1969, this "turquoise sea in the sands" is now a popular, remote destination for fishing, migratory birdwatching, and nomadic yurt stays.

 

Aydarkul Lake, known as the "blue pearl of the sands," is a vast man-made reservoir in Uzbekistan's Kyzylkum Desert. Spanning over 3,000 square kilometers, it stretches for 250 km. Created in 1969 from an accidental river overflow, it now features turquoise waters, sandy beaches, and unique desert-oasis ecotourism. Aydarkul is not an ancient body of water; it is a massive and serendipitous byproduct of Soviet-era engineering. In 1969, an exceptionally severe flood forced the Syr Darya River to overflow. Millions of cubic meters of water were diverted into the natural Arnasay depression in the Kyzylkum Desert, permanently flooding the salt flats and creating a massive, sprawling lake.

BY Air : Reaching Aydarkul Lake by air has become significantly more accessible. Uzbekistan has constructed a dedicated aerodrome (Arnasay) directly on the shores of the lake in the Jizzakh region, featuring a 1,700-meter runway designed for regional aircraft like the L-410 and ATR-72.
