Punakha Dzong
Punakha Dzong, known as the "Palace of Great Happiness," is the second-oldest and second-largest dzong in Bhutan. Built in 1637 at the scenic confluence of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers, it is an architectural masterpiece renowned as one of the most beautiful fortresses in the country.
 
Punakha Dzong, officially known as Pungtang Dewa Chhenbi Phodrang (the "Palace of Great Happiness"), is Bhutan’s second-oldest and second-largest dzong. Built in 1637 at the stunning confluence of the Pho Chhu (father) and Mo Chhu (mother) rivers, it remains an architectural marvel and the winter residence for Bhutan's central monk body.  Built in 1637 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, the unifier of Bhutan, to serve as both an administrative fortress and a spiritual hub.

BY Air :  To visit Punakha Dzong by air, you will first fly into Paro International Airport (PBH), Bhutan’s only international hub. From there, you will take a scenic, 3.5 to 4-hour scenic drive (about 130 km) east through the mountains and the Dochu La Pass to reach Punakha. Indian nationals intending to visit Bhutan are required to carry any of the two valid 'Travel Documents' (a) Valid Indian Passport having validity of minimum 6 months; and/or (b) Voter Identity Card, issued by the Election Commission of India. No Visa is required to visit Bhutan.
BY Taxi : To reach Punakha Dzong, take a local shared taxi from the Khuruthang taxi stand for about BTN 40 (approx. ₹40) one-way, or hire a private cab for the day starting at ₹4,000. Shared taxis drop you near the river; cross the traditional wooden cantilever bridge to enter the Dzong.
