Termez is the capital of the Surxondaryo Region in southern Uzbekistan. Situated on the Amu Darya River, right on the border with Afghanistan, it is the country's southernmost city. With a history spanning over 2,500 years, it was once a major Buddhist center and the site of Alexander the Great's Alexandria on the Oxus. Islamic Heritage: Features significant medieval mausoleums and complexes like Sulton-Saodat, Kokildor Khonaqo, and the tomb of the famous Islamic scholar Al-Hakim at-Termizi.

Termez sits on the right bank of the Amu Darya (Oxus) River. Located nearby is the Hairatan border crossing and the famous Friendship Bridge, connecting Uzbekistan directly to Afghanistan. Because of this, it has long acted as an important economic transit point and served as a major supply hub during the Soviet era and subsequent NATO operations in Afghanistan.
